The Crossing Arts Alliance is requesting literary and visual art submissions for a juried ‘Dimensions of Motherhood’ exhibit and event. Artists residing in the following counties of Crow Wing, Cass, Todd, Wadena and Morrison counties in Minnesota are eligible to submit up to two pieces of original art. Both Visual and literary work is eligible for submission for this exhibit and should express the theme of motherhood and mothers, and the joy and complexities found within.
Both literary and visual work must have been created in the past two years and not previously exhibited with TCAA. No artwork shall violate any copyright. All artwork will remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibit. Submission fee is $10 for Crossing Arts members and $15 for non-members and is non-refundable. Up to 2 pieces may be submitted for consideration. Deadline for submission is April 15, 2016 at noon. Selected artists will receive an email notice of acceptance no later than April 19, 2016. All accepted work must be received in the gallery by April 29, 2016. Literary submissions can include both poetry and prose. Entire books may not be submitted. Story-telling and spoken-word will also be considered for the reading at the opening reception. Previously published work is accepted. Selected work will be printed and showcased by the Crossing Arts Alliance. The artists selected will also be invited and encouraged to read their work at the Franklin Arts auditorium during the May 7 opening reception and reading.
All selected visual work must be ready to install and not be larger than 44” wide by 72” long by April 29.
The Exhibit open May 7 and runs through May 27. “ Dimensions of Motherhood” exhibit and event seeks to provide a platform for artists to explore the complex and universal theme of “mother”. The Crossing Arts Alliance mission is to promote and enhance arts opportunities in the Central Lakes Area through facilities, partnering, and programming.
This activity is funded, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Five Wings Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund; and grants from Sertoma Winter Wonderland, Brainerd Service League, Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union, and the Anderson Family Legacy Fund.
The project is under the artistic Direction of Lisa Jordan, Director of the Crossing Arts Alliance and Krista Soukup of Blue Cottage Agency.
