The author of more than fifty fiction and nonfiction books, Lewis has built a distinguished career writing traditional Westerns, historical novels, young adult fiction, and works of nonfiction that bring the frontier era to life. A multiple recipient of the prestigious Spur Award from the Western Writers of America, Lewis has also earned numerous Will Rogers Medallion Awards for his contributions to Western literature. His acclaimed novel Blood of Texas received a Spur Award for Best Western Novel, further establishing his reputation as one of the leading voices in contemporary Western fiction. In addition to his writing career, Lewis worked as a newspaper journalist and later served in communications and marketing roles at both Texas Tech University and Angelo State University. He holds degrees in journalism from Baylor University and Ohio State University, as well as a master’s degree in history from Angelo State University.
