Candace, I am looking forward to you fourth novel in this series. My Norwegian grandparents and their siblings and cousins were pioneers in the settlement of land along the Wadsworth Trail between Morris and Donnelly in the 1870s and 1880s.
The Harstad brothers were the first to build on land in what became Rendsville Township (Northern Stevens County) on the south shore of Harstad Slough. Dakota Indians who had been driven out of Minnesota after the Uprising returned to meet the Harstads. Lars and Erik’s families traded eggs for ducks from the Indians. Never any trouble.
It was ten miles to the nearest European/American farmers.
