A new children’s picture book, Finding Home, is teaching kids the importance of animal rescue with the story of a homeless cat searching for a name and a forever family.
The book published by North Star Press of St. Cloud, Inc. debuts on April 27, 2014.
Minnesota Author Kristy Abbott paired with artist/illustrator Danusia Keusder to create this vibrantly illustrated and heartwarming story. Then, she took the book to Feline Rescue, Inc. for feedback and got something even better, a Seal of Approval.
“It is such an honor to collaborate with this incredible no-kill rescue organization,” says Abbott. We are going to use this book to bring attention to Feline Rescue and all the programs it provides to help homeless cats in the Twin Cities.”

Feline Rescue, Inc. provides homeless cats with shelter, foster care, and community education and outreach. Founded in 1997, its people — all volunteers — care for and love cats.
Margaret Owen Thorpe, Marketing and Development Director, said, “Above all, we respect cats. Feline Rescue believes that every cat who wants a forever home should have one.”
According to Alley Cat Allies, “One in three households has at least one pet cat – adding up to roughly 82 million pet cats…Just 16%—less than one-fifth—of all cat-owning households have adopted a cat from an animal pound or shelter.”
The public is invited to join the official Twin Cities release party celebrating the book’s debut and honoring Feline Rescue at Magers & Quinn Booksellers, 3038 Hennepin Ave. South, Minneapolis, Sunday, April 27, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Children and adults can enjoy refreshments, buy a signed copy of the book and meet two Feline Rescue alumni — Boris, who serves as official “Spokescat”, and Waffles, co-star of the award-winning blog, Glogirly: Tails of Two Cats and Their Girl.
